Workshop Information:

Join an unforgettable 8-day wildlife photography workshop set against the dramatic, rugged beauty of the Shetland Islands, led by Rachel Bigsby for Nikon School. This immersive experience is a dream for photographers, offering unrivalled access to breathtaking seascapes and seabird colonies including the exact location where Rachel captured her award-winning Wildlife Photographer of the Year image.

From land-based vantage points to thrilling boat charters, you’ll experience the full spectrum of Shetland. Throughout the workshop, you will come face-to-face with some of the world’s most captivating seabird species. Capture the elegance of Arctic terns, the intensity of Northern Gannets, the magnificence of Skuas, the charm of Puffins, the secrecey of Storm Petrels, and more who await your lens. Each day is carefully planned to maximise photographic opportunities, with workshop highlights including:

  • Private charter to Mousa to capture the enigmatic Storm Petrels in their natural habitat.

  • Four exhilarating boat charters to the cliffs of Noss to photograph the cliffs and Gannet diving spectacle.

  • Hermaness National Nature Reserve, home to Great Skuas, Puffins, Gannets, and Fulmars, for a full day of spectacular photography.

  • Opportunities to photograph Arctic Skua, Arctic Tern and Black Guillemot colonies.

Under the expert instruction of Rachel Bigsby, Neil Freeman and Ricci Chera of Nikon School, you’ll learn to perfect your skills in capturing dynamic bird behaviour, flight photography, and the subtleties of light and composition. Alongside just 9 like-minded photographers, you’ll also have access to Rachel’s insights and techniques that have earned her international acclaim.

This workshop offers a truly immersive experience in one of the world’s most dramatic and seabird-rich locations with unparalleled opportunities to create a portfolio of exceptional images. The workshop is designed for photographers of all levels - from beginners to advanced enthusiasts. To get the most out of the experience, it’s helpful to have a basic understanding of your camera’s key controls, including shutter speed, aperture, ISO, and your cameras focusing system.
